My house ran out of meat stock recently,i.e chicken.
Since we'll be going back to Malaysia soon and it's exam week,no one is willing to go and buy the supply of protein.
So we resort to eggs.
Eggs,eggs and more eggs everyday.
I don't mind very much.
Just reminds me:
1. During primary schooldays,my mother would prepare scramble eggs for the mornings.Mornings are naturally a bit of chaotic-
"Mana beg skolah!"
"Alamak kasut x kering!"
"Batang pisang utk klas seni x ambik lg!"
You get the idea.So mornings are stressful for my mother but somehow she still manages to prepare breakfast and pack lunch for my recess.
So I woke up every morning to eggs.Scrambled.
The thing is there were occasions when I cooked myself scrambled eggs but they however tasted different.
Only sometime later in life it occurred to me that my mother had cooked in the midst of "scrambled" and disordered morning.
My scramble eggs don't have the 'hecticness' it need.
Or so I think.
2. I don't normally eat kurma, ponget, gulai and other kind of curious cuisine.
As a child these dishes somehow came up at our table.
So my mother would cook a bull's eye egg...telur mata kerbau.(sunny side egg)
Ungrateful child I was,I would not eat the egg if the "eye" were hard-cooked or burst.
i.e. the yolk wasn't encapsulated perfectly.
"ni bukan telur mata.kerbau dah buta."
Seriously I would smack my-at-that-time-self if I had accidentally prod the yolk and had to cook another one.You brat!
However I still grew up eating sunny eggs, with perfect yolks as the result of my mother.
A happy childhood with sunny eggs.
3. "My sister taught me to mash boiled eggs, before mixing it with mayonaise and spreading it on breads.Voila,an egg sandwich.A good way to not let the boiled eggs from weddings go to waste."
And so I told my friends at high school. Then they went,-
"wadde!"
"eew.."
"uwek"
To prove them pessimistic,I made the egg-sandwich and brought it to school. The pessimists ate the food and liked it.
And we sold it at kinda 'pasar malam' the school held weekly.
People bought it( I wouldn't claim they love it since boarding school students can eat mostly anything).
Even those who don't normally eat eggs, bought them.
"Eggs?".."No,no.I don't want."
"Eggs with mayonaise which is actually a stable emulsion formed from the oil and the yolks and is generally flavored with lemon juice and/or vinegar, salt, and sometimes mustard?"*
"Yes please."
...
Maybe it's the Invert CritiCal theory.Oh well.
Anyhow my high schooldays were a collection of mashed, boiled egg.
In an eggshell,we have to eat eggs this week.
I don't mind,just reminds me...
Notes:
1. You can spin an egg to know whether its boiled or still uncooked/raw.
2. *source-wiki
3. So,which one 1st?The hen or the egg?
