So, you want to travel eh?
Basically this post is about travelling in Europe, a few tips for others and reminders for myself. (pokcek la ni tny soalan hr tu, nah aku tulis blog terus).
Some might find this not so interesting as you have been through these numerous times but if you have any opinions and tips to add, do comment.
First of all I have only been to a few places in Europe: Berlin, Salzburg (Austria), Paris, Amsterdam, London, Dublin, Prague ; thus my experiences are in regard to this limited places. I use the phrase a few because there are lots of people that have been to much more places in Europe than I have. Such example is Saudara Jhazz . dia ni mmg otai gla.
Anyway, from my eyes and dim memories, these are the things that should be noted:
1. Important websites:
Hostelworld is to check the lodgings in your land of roaming.
Maps.google is to check whether the hostel you're interested really 10 minutes from the city center or actually 10 minutes by running at fastest speed possible for the human body .
TGV is not for film, though it might not be necessary. TGV is for booking trains. Hi speed trains from UK to france, Amsterdam, Frankfurt etc2.
Wikipedia is to wiki.Klar?
2. Vor der Reise (before the travel)
- Book things, IN ADVANCE. In my opinion, 2 months in advance(for big holidays e.g. Christmas) is considerate, around 1 month is apt. It is really much cheaper to book early. Ryanair even offer 10 pound return for certain destinations for the early birds. Ala mcm Airasia. Book early also apply to hostels, train and sometimes entry fee for attractions.
- Online. Book online if it's possible. The additional charges for offlines tickets and stuff do cost a lot. And the credit card to pay online? Beg, borrow, steal
- Read. Wiki your destination. Or if you're too lazy, force someone who is going with you to read it. Sometimes forums even help as they give tips to save cost on your destinations
- Packing: Be realistic, don't pack your cargobag but don't oversimplify. Expect for difference in temperature. Ada org tu mai German pakai kulit rimau 'slippers' sbb kt Manchester dh panas. Amik. Menggigil bla smpai sini. I myself find it convenient to wear additional layers in the beginning, which you can shed as you arrive at the hostel. So your bag is lighter.
- Food:Bawak makanan. Kadang² x sempat sebab nk g airport, kejar bas dsb. I always carry a pack of Milka with me on travel.
- Cards/Ipods : Boring dow nnt. Serius wa cakap lu.
- Be optimistic. Try not to judge 'weird' things at once.
- Be safe. Be careful. : A friend of mine was swindled €50 in 10 seconds. No kidding
- Read: I don't know about others but I find it more interesting to read the description below an attraction and then gaze at it than looking at it and wondering all the time what it is. That's why I do not quite like tourist unfriendly attractions, where there is no effort to educate the visitors.
- So I like guides: Not the one you pay but friends who happens to be studying at the destinations. Ada orang kata, redah ja la. Kan? I'm not sure but these students must know something about the place (cheap food outlets, nice souvenir shops etc3) right? After all they did spend Mara's money there and must know something, even they only understand half of the foreign language themselves, a travel with a guide is much more fun. And remember to treat the guides. Bayar utk kebab pon dh ok.
- Don't be a wetblanket: Let say your travel companion thinks one thing is interesting but you think it's too expensive/unworthy. Dont wear him down by complaining.
"Smart kan benda ni?"
"Tak pon, buruk macam haram. Dah la mahal"Or don't force people to buy either. Everyone's sense of buying is different but if you must say something,e.g your friend seems like he/she is wasting money, say it nicely (yeah, mcm aku buat ja).
- Travel with cliques. Less problems.
- Batteries/SD MC: for pics. Topups: for contacts if lost from each other
- Foods: There's kebab all around Europe, though some of them sell alcohol beverages. It does raise doubts, that if it is willing to compromise the drinks, how Halal is the meats. So most of the time I prefer Subway. Funny how you trust non-Muslim more.
- Sometimes, you travel alone. I find it has funs in it ways, like meeting new people. However after sometimes I find it better if you engage the person next to you, only after the journey is halfway. I'll explain further if anyone bothers to ask why.
- Write blogs: Ok kidding². But you should thank the people from your travel and I find writing it down on a blog commemorates them.
- Balance your accounts, do laundry and stuff
- Plan for next travel
And that's it. Hopefully this is helpful to someone in some ways.
And for those who have been through all these and have things to add from your own experience, leave a comment so it might be helpful for my next travel.
