a friend of mine was cooking.in an apartment on the 5th floor in Germany.
and then the persona looked out of the window.
omg,there's an old man sunbathing next door(in the garden).
lantas dia pon berpaling.

ok so this post concerns with complexion.
skin complexion that is.

1st case:
fair is beauty.
well,to be fair(pun intended),not everyone thinks so but the majority of malaysians do.
"putih melepak" for example is a complimentary term in BM that implies one beauty and splendor.
and then there's that advertisement.

2nd case:
in Germany(or Europe),people consider-can i put this as 'unfairness'?- as a state of beauty.
they like to be tanned.
it was quite a shock at first to see a "tan-machine".
I wondered,why were they putting lights in a coffin?
I thought that was odd,until I realized people lay in there to get tanned in the winter.
ha-ha.
so they pay money to not have a fair skin.
there's also a term in German;käse which means cheese.
it's as far as i know by no means a complimentary term,use to describe very fair-skinned people.
obviously fair is not beauty


which is the opposite to what Malaysians think.
how peculiar.
and why does it happens to be so?

to the 2nd case
in my humble opinion,it's not even exciting to lay under the sun and waiting for your melanin to spread all over below the skin.

so why then bother?a bit of pondering and I thought,in this current time when European for example,travel to hot places (especially in the Equator),they would get a slight tone of brown in their skin,even when they do not sunbath.
so does tourist who goes for holidays.
so how do they get tan?during holidays overseas.
how do they afford?through (lots of) money.
thus in a way,the tan somehow suggest the monetary condition of a person,because someone who is broke can't afford to lay all day long if he want to eat,let alone spend money to travel to other country to do the same thing.

to the 1st case
albeit the difference perception of beauty, I understand the reasoning is not unlike for the 1st and 2nd case.
for example why do 'Putri's in folklore or historical writings were described as very fair?
ruling out the claims that you can have fairer skin by bathing in goat milk,the possible explanation was they do not have much chores to do.
or rather they are not exposed to much to the sun.

similar to before,you can't lay all day away from the sun if your monetary situation doesn't allow.
so skin fairness implies wealth status.somehow.

3rd case:
supplementary case.rosy cheeks are beautiful.
as in books such as Jane Austens'.and still used nowadays.
my notion is that a rosy cheek comes when a person have enough to eat and little to do.
peasants don't have enough to eat.
farmers/millers may have,but they have works.and these chores in nature do not exactly accentuate ones cheek.
sooted face and rosy cheeks?
nah.
either one,but not both at one time.
thus perception of beauty somehow relates back to wealth.


Conclusion?
1. beauty is a matter of perception.
2. cheese are white.
3. milk goat functions as drink.duh..
